Of course, the LJ userpics don't help. ;p - RJ's LJ - WTF is my way of life.
I've been on the 'net longer that some of you've been ALIVE.
Of course, the LJ userpics don't help. ;p
Note on getting down with the sickness: Still coughing. But luckily that's the only thing left of whatever's tried to kick my ass.

Now I play video games. People know this. It's mainly RPG, but other ventures into fighting and platformers. And whenever I start a new game that has the ability for someone to create or pick their own character, I tend to have a bit of... gender bias.

Okay, I'll say it: I tend to use/pick the female characters first. I usually run through fighting games with the female character first. Pokemon Crysta/FireRed? Female trainer. Threads of Fate, Sword of Mana, Megaman ZX, Magical Starsign, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Gunbird 2? All female characters. And the current game I'm working on, Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, I picked the female lead. And I'll probably do the same for Summon Night 2.

Of course, I wonder if I'm the only one who does this, so... Poll time.

Poll #929155 Questioning your video game sexuality.
This poll is closed.

When picking a character, how do you lean?

Male playing male. (Slash-a-riffic.)
Male playing female. (Magical girl inside?)
Female playing male. (Tomboyfoolery.)
Female playing female. (... Can I watch?)

(Side note: Dear god, hcuz's right, the wonder icon is cute. But the reason it says yuri-fun cover is because it from this issue. Forgot to answer that from last month.)

7 targets down / Shoot one off?

This is a tricky poll to answer for me, since in my case the answer is "depends". Like, in WoW all but one of my characters is female but in City of Villains, one of my top characters to date is male. With Pokemon, sometimes I'll have both 'copies' of a game and have my 'main' game with the female and the second game with the male. And finally in normal IRC RP, most of my main characters are male (for example, the tigerboy in my icon :P).

So I'll go with "girl that plays mostly girls unless she wants to play guys"? I dunno.

Well, think of it this way then: If you were starting a game, and only had minimum knowledge of it, and the first questions asked when you started up was 'Pick a character, oh and they're opposite genders.' which would you be more likely to choose?

And yes, sometimes after I beat the game, I'll go back through it with the other character(s), just to see what's different.

Dammit you forced me to reveal my darkest secret. I always wanted to be a pretty magical girl... ;(

Depends on the game for me. I'm a girl, and usually I'll play guys because they tend to look cooler (and the girls are usually slut-o-riffic) - but there's only one or two races I'll make a male character for on WoW, because outside of the trolls, the gnomes, and (it looks like - haven't been able to play one just yet) the blood elves, all the guys look like they live in a steroid factory. And that only looks good on the dwarves.

I usually play female the first go-round, but unfortunately the male character often gets the better storyline (cf. Star Ocean 2) so I go back and do it again.

Amusing note: My boyfriend plays a female character in Phantasy Star Online. When asked why, his response was "Well, I'm going to spend ~80 hours staring at my character's ass. It might as well be a female one."

I always play the girl first, if there's an option, even as a kid. Princess in Super Mario 2 for the win!

Usually pick the chick just for kicks. Sometimes it makes the game harder (taking less hits, being physically weaker oooooh sexist).
