Fuck the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs. Yes, they have a post-season. ... So?

Now it's not the Cubs I hate. Hell, I can't even say I vaguely dislike them. I care about the Cubs about as much as I care about the Oakland A's or the Pittsburgh Pirates. Which is to say I don't care about them. At all. My MLB team has been, and probably always will be, the White Sox.

But like I said, I don't hate the Cubs. What I hate is Cubs FANS. Seriously, the fans are the ones that are more problematic than the team. Billy Goat's curse? Fan placed it. Bartman's ball? Fan caught it. But they still go on like the Cubs are the best thing since sliced bread and indoor plumbing, regardless of how the team's doing. If the Cubs are winning, they rub in your face. (Especially Sox fans.) And if the Cubs are losing, they either try and keep the baseball conversation as short as possible, or make excuses. (Oh, Wood's elbow was bugging him...) Me, on the other hand: The White Sox sucked this year. There is no excuse. The could've sucked white off of rice. (Lucky they didn't. Kansas City and Tampa Bay did that.) I knew we didn't have a chance by August. And I still rooted for them, for they are my team.

And of course, when the Sox won in '05, guess who all jumped on that bandwagon? Yeah. Of course, who's trying to drag anyone onto the Cubs bandwagon now? ... Dude, I'm not dropping my team just because they don't have a post-season. And you jumped on the '05 wagon of your own accord, so don't put it as "I scratched your back..." type of thing.

So something to all the Cubs fans out there: Yeah, you're going to the post-season. Wheee. They did the same thing 4 years ago. And note: There are 7 other teams also going. All of them, including the wild card teams, have better records than the Cubs. If you think you'll last, you really need to look at a stats page.

However, if they do win, I still see a plus or two. There will be no more whining about "next year" and curses. And the Cubs will no longer be the "lovable losers," so that allure that helped the Cubs garner so many fans will disappear, and I may not have to deal with the idiotic Cubs fans anymore.

...Then the Cubs can get bought out and move to Vegas. :P

(... Maybe this is why I pick on the Cubs. Because it drives the Cubs fans up the wall. Or it might be because I can be an asshole at times. ;p)

I'm amused that the first two people to comment to this entry are using Kain icons....

This is why I prefer football. *nods*

Well, that and my baseball team is the Orioles. So. Yeah. It hurts less if I just focus on football. At least then one of my teams might win.

MAN LAW #167: In the event of a losing season, describe the year as a Rebuilding Phase, even if no rebuilding actually took place.

Granted, the KC Royals have been in a Rebuilding Phase since the 90s started, so there ya go. :P

The only reason I root against teams is when they have asshole fans.

...Granted, this happens an awful lot, especially in New York state.

Mneh. Most White Sox fans I've met are criminals, which is to say better than Yankees fans.

And yet the Cardinals were only two games over .500, last season, and still managed to win the Series. Go figure.

Of course, if I were a White Sox fan, I'd probably dunk myself in the toilet due to the idiotic management awarding Ozzie Guillen's 67-win season with a five year contract extension.

If I were a Cubs fan, though, I'd dunk myself in the toilet, due to being stuck living in Iowa...
