Here's something to think about. - RJ's LJ - WTF is my way of life.
I've been on the 'net longer that some of you've been ALIVE.
Here's something to think about.
My father's not the smartest man in the world, but he did hit on something with the shuttle tragedy. (Though he was joking around at the time.)

You do realize that someone from the TX/LA/AR debris area, will (sooner or later) put a piece (or pieces) of the shuttle up for selling on eBay.

A lot of people will say "No, they won't.", but there's been worse stuff for sale on the internet before.

That was one of my first thoughts, actually. And jurhael-sempai found this thread on the Straight Dope MB.

It's no surprise to me. People did this with the WTC before, as well as Elián González. And it's not just the debris, there'll also be scrambling to sell/buy stuff like the sew-on patches/medallions/stickers/etc. they sell to commemorate the start of each mission.

I could've made some money off the WTC incident, actually - I had this set of picture postcards I got on a whim in NYC the last time I went (over 7 years ago, if I'm not mistaken - prior to that we used to go there nearly every year) that included aerial photographs of the skyline. At least three of those skyline photos prominently showed the Twin Towers. Anyway, I just happened to stumble onto them a little over a month or two after the incident (and the sales of stuff on eBay were still in full swing then), and found that aside from a small scuff on one corner of the envelope-like package that held the set, they were all intact and in pristine condition.

I kept them. Aside from the fact that I would've felt scummy profiting from them, they're the only pictures I have (I haven't seen any of our own family photographs showing the WTC, so I guess these're it.) of something that brings back childhood memories of having fun in New York.

I guess I'm just a sentimental chump.
